TIRANA, July 20 /ATA/ – The parliamentary opposition lawmaker Rudina Hajdari called on the United Opposition and the Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha to support the constitutional changes on an open-list electoral system.
Speaking to reporters following the today’s Political Council meeting, lawmaker Hajdari said ”this is a historic opportunity to embrace a cause that would help opposition for radical changes in the next general elections.”
“I have a question for Basha: why did you abandon Parliament and why did you send lawmakers on the street? You should have at least fought against vote buying. You have promised to support open-list system in next elections. This is an appeal to opposition to side with the citizens who want this fundamental change,” Hajdari said.
Hajdari noted that the June 5 was a starting point and a positive step, but it is not the end of the road for the electoral reform.”
