TIRANA, July 10 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama ruled out on Friday the possibility of a new lockdown in the country due to the ongoing pandemic of the novel coronavirus, saying a second lockdown would critically affect everyone.
“Another lockdown in Albania would be something of critical impact on everyone. Enforcing the rules by using police and the army after the country’s reopening is impossible. An increase in the number of infections has been absolutely observed in all countries that have reopened. We are doing whatever we are tasked with doing, but I don’t think that the lockdown will be reintroduced,” PM Rama told a press conference.
“Everyone should be aware of the fact that the virus is not gone and it is not going to leave. I don’t know for how long, since nobody does, and we cannot resort to lockdown and to reopening again as long as the virus is still with us. The first lockdown was important for us to become aware and make preparations,” Rama said.
“”We are now prepared to cope with the increasing number of fresh infections, but if we want to maintain this trend and minimize the consequences, everyone should assume their responsibility. This is the essence,” PM Rama said.
The government’s strategy is to quickly identify new cases, conduct testing and isolate only the outbreaks that arise.
