TIRANA, July 8 /ATA/ – Minister of Finance and Economy Anila Denaj said Wednesday that the Albanian government’s tax amnesty bill, currently undergoing a broad consultation process, will help businesses that have created a huge gap between the reality and their fiscal statements over the years.
“This represents an opportunity for the whole part of the businesses that have accumulated their assets through legal activities and honest hard work, to formalize and be pardoned for a ten-year period so that they can move forward with proper funding and addressing the need for new assets,” Finance Minister Denaj told reporters.
However, Finance Minister underlined that certain groups will be categorically excluded from the proposed fiscal and criminal amnesty.
“In coordination with the Ministry of Justice, we have tried to exclude certain groups that should not be part of the amnesty and make sure that the amnesty, through clear rules of any institution that is part of its implementation, including the General Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering,” she said
Denaj said that earlier capital amnesty initiatives have failed to yield desired results as they have not been coupled with a criminal amnesty bill.
“Any fiscal amnesty initiative in the past years has yielded minimal outcomes, because they have never been accompanied by a criminal amnesty. This law works with the criminal amnesty beyond the fiscal one. The aim was not only to measure the monetary fund, but also to take a proactive approach to liberalize at least the financial statement that businesses and individuals have used today and have adopted an unrealistic approach to their statements,” Finance Minister said
