Dialogue with Serbia/ Hoti: Mutual recognition and normalization of relations, US and EU, complementary role

TIRANA, July 3 /ATA/ The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti, stated today in Tirana that Ambassador Richard Grenell is in contact with the Special Envoy of President Trump for peace negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo to arrange a second meeting in Washington, after refusal of the 27th June.

At a joint press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, Kosovo Prime Minister Hoti said that “Kosovo ‘s legitimate constitutional institutions are ready to assume all their responsibilities. I am ready and in coordination with Ambassador Grenell to set a date any time soon to sit down together and kick-start the dialogue process that will be initially based on an economic agenda and then to move on to political issues of the dialogue, building on our principles for this process of mutual recognition and for normalization of relations between the two countries. ”

“It is 9 years now since we have engaged in dialogue on normalization of trade relations, movement of citizens, recognition of diplomas, the Cadastre and now we are in dialogue over mutual recognition, which is the first point on possible agreement” between the two countries,” – Hoti said.

According to him, it is a dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia supported by the European Union and the United States of America.

Prime Minister Hoti said that “during this time I have heard that the US and the EU are in competition on this process. I see the role of them both as complementary in the process of dialogue.”
Hoti further said that “Prime Minister Rama gave an excellent explanation of why dialogue should not foresee an alternative. Therefore, whenever I am invited to Washington or Brussels, I will go and represent the state of Kosovo. The right to protest is a fundamental right of everyone, but we as we have shown in the political and institutional past to respect our international obligations, even this time we will act along similar lines because when the law enforcement agencies bring up an issue, it is not appropriate to take actions to obstruct the judiciary, but to get confronted with it. ”

Asked if the govt. coalition with DPK will continue to be in place if the indictment against President Thaçi is confirmed, Hoti said: “You always know my approach to handling these things, I will not respond to any hypothetical questions. The government is stable, the president has a full mandate, if those circumstances arise, then we we will sit down and thrash out the best solutions to the benefit of the country. ”
