Covid-19/ Koraqi: Virus has not lost its aggressiveness

TIRANA, June 26/ATA/ The head of the Microbiology Laboratory at Mother Teresa University Hospital Center, Andi Koraqi urged Friday the Albanian citizens to strictly adhere to social distancing and hygiene rules in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as the virus has not changed its virulence.

In a televised interview, Koraqi said that, following the increase in the number of people affected by Covid-19, the frequency of contacts and the time spent with one another has increased, so the rise in the level of infections was within expectations.

“Not all viruses lose their aggressiveness as temperatures rise. This is observed by seasonal viruses such as influenza, which tends to multiply at an optimal temperature of 26-27 degrees.

“COVID-19 is not directly affected by high temperatures, as this virus tends to grow at an optimal temperature of 36-37 degrees so it does not respect the rules of seasonal respiratory viruses. Thus, even the high temperatures do not directly affect the virulence of the virus, but the high temperatures and the decrease of the humidity affect the transmission of the virus,” Koraqi stressed.//a.i/
