TIRANA, June 10 /ATA/ – Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj said Wednesday that the initial payments in financial compensation to the affected families for the damages to their houses due to the powerful earthquake of Nov 26 last year will begin by end of June.
Inspecting the work to rehabilitate a number of apartment buildings in Tirana, Mayor Veliaj confirmed that first payments in compensation to the households, whose houses and other properties have sustained DS1-DS2-DS3-level damages, which implies no structural damages to the extent that the buildings should be demolished, will be disbursed starting on June 30.
The affected-families can carry out the reconstruction and damage-repair work themselves and the government will provide financial subsidy to cover the cost, depending on the damage level.
Veliaj also announced that work to reconstruct the quake-damaged houses in Tirana will kick off very soon.
“First payments in compensation for the damaged houses will start on June 30. We will provide cash support to cover the cost of reconstruction work on houses that have sustained minor damages,” he said.
