World Environment Day/ NAPA: Albania, projects to support blue economy

TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/ On the occasion of World Environment Day, whose message is “It’s time for nature,” the National Agency for Protected Areas brings to attention today the maritime activities, which are still in their infancy.

“We are in time to develop them by meeting environmental standards, without polluting the waters and without damaging natural habitats and underwater creatures,” sources from National Agency for Protected Areas say.

Pressure is mounting on maritime and coastal areas of Albania threatening the future of what makes tourism so special in our country.

“We need to plan future activities in the Adriatic in a sustainable way. This is the only way to support a blue economy in the area. The role of scientists is essential, as accurate data contribute to better decision-making, better policies in this sector by helping to keep the seawater clean and to have a healthy and safe sea for a long time to come, ” same sources say.
Fishermen, the sector of maritime activities, navigation and all sea users should help ensure all the benefits from the Adriatic Sea, today and in the future, without harming it.

The Adriatic GEF project was built in collaboration with scientific policies and institutions to design future policies, mobilize funding opportunities, launch new initiatives that support a sustainable blue economy and exchange best practices. Whatever your role and responsibility, if you are involved in the management of marine resources in the Adriatic, we need you, do not hesitate to contact us,
“Marina Marković, project coordinator, says.

World Environment Day sees environmental activities at their peak. Since 1974, it is marked every year on June 5 with governments, businesses, celebrities and citizens joining the efforts to address a pressing environmental issue.

The food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the climate that makes our planet habitable come from nature.
For example, every year, marine plants produce more than half of our atmospheric oxygen, and a mature tree cleans our air, absorbing 22 kg of carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen in return.
