New Theatre to be built through public funding

TIRANA, May 18 /ATA/- Albania will have a decent National Theatre which will be an investment through public funding that will meet all the technical requirements set forth by the artists to stage performances in completely transformed venues.

According to the Municipality of Tirana, as explained earlier the decision to erect the new building out of public funding and not through public-private partnership (PPP) comes in support of all the demands from community of artists for a modern theater, which meets the criteria necessary for professional and quality theatrical performances.

Construction of the new theatre will be completely financed out of the state budget, a request put forth by the artists during the process of negotiations.

“This building has never been a cultural monument, what’s more in 2007, those who played politics with it the most in these two years and a half ruled out any opportunity to include it on the lists of cultural monuments as something completely worthless, ” the mayor of Tirana Veliaj emphasized earlier in his public speeches, underlining his determination to say yes to the public work, and finance the new project on our own.

Conceived of as the cultural heart of the capital and all of Albania and dedicated solely to art, the New Theater building project offers a modern design architecture and creates a unique space in the city of Tirana, with all the necessary amenities for staging theatrical performances.

To reach a consensus between the municipality of Tirana and artists, 12 open meetings as well as hundreds of individual meetings with community of artists have been held.
Albania’s new National Theater will be able to host a wide range of live performances, with dedicated spaces for performances inside and outside the building.
