TIRANA, May 12/ATA/ -“Justice reform is absolutely necessary and I think everyone has agreed on that,” said US Ambassador Yuri Kim today.
In an interview with Euro News, when asked about Justice Reform, Kim said, “In 2016, the popular demand for Justice Reform was so great that politicians had to approve it. And they did the right thing. It’s commendable. ”
“Justice reform has three parts: the legal framework, the establishment of institutional capacity for it, and finally, what can happen at the same time, the law must be implemented and the institutions must function,” Kim said.
“I think people have a right to be a little bit impatient,” she said. “We saw that the first part was done. We have the laws of 2016. We have most of the institutions set up, except the National Bureau of Investigation and the Constitutional Court, which is something major,” said Kim.
“I mention all this to highlight the fact that no matter how impatient we are, there has been real progress,” Kim said.
Ambassador Kim said further on, “I would say that something like Justice Reform is extremely difficult. It’s complicated and imperfect, but from what I see, the basic elements are there and it’s up to the actors to really start implementing it. ”
In answer to question if what we have done so far for Justice Reform is the best we could have done, Ambassador Kim said no one should claim perfection, as this is not possible.
In answer to question whether she thinks Albanian politicians can put the interests of citizens above political ones, Ambassador Kim said, “they have shown through their actions that it is possible and I think the Albanian people will continue to demand better behavior from leaders. They have shown that when an issue is important at a time like corona pandemic, they can put politics aside. They can focus on the general good. And I hope they will continue to do so. “/p.s./
