TIRANA, May 2/ATA/-The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Vasilika Hysi stated today that, “The changes in the Electoral Code cannot be left to be done at the last moment. We have had enough time, almost two years and it is unforgivable that by giving the opportunity to the non-parliamentary opposition to engage, there are created obstacles like that”.
During an interview on television, Hysi said that, “It is good that this reform is done within June.”
Hysi reminded that, “The next elections are almost 1 year away, but this period is short if we consider the need to prepare the infrastructure.”
“You are aware that within the framework of the agreement, the Political Council was formed “, said Hysi.
Focusing on the activity of the Political Council, Hysi stressed that it operated until March 10.
“On May 6, the Electoral Reform Commission will be gathered and will be informed about the work done by this Council and the steps that will be taken,” she said.
Hysi emphasized that, “We have decided to postpone the term of activity of this Commission for another 2 months, but I think that this commission has had the longest time available to approve in time the changes in the Electoral Code”, she said.
“Let’s give to the Central Election Commission (CEC) a chance to reform. There are two variants of the reorganization and functioning of the CEC and if the proposed variants are approved, a sufficient time is required to create bylaws, its restructuring and to establish in full operation and efficiency this mechanism of elections “, said Hysi. /j.p/p.s./
