Immunity response to COVID-19/ Serological testing in TUHC lab gets underway

TIRANA, April 23 /ATA/ – As of Monday, the lab at University Hospital Centre “Mother Teresa” has started to perform serological testing.

The first to undergo serological tests measuring the amount of anti-bodies or proteins in the blood are the doctors and nurses. The first tests are also conducted to try out the equipment.

The serological test, which will also be performed on those infected with COVID-19, measures the antibodies that may have built after contracting the virus and the level of immunity against re-infection.

Vjollca Durro, a doctor at the laboratory at TUHC, says that “the tests have started for the TUHC staff, the people who have been in contact with the infection. Currently we will take a certain quantity of samples to make a preliminary assessment. On average the device can perform 150 tests per hour. That’s the hourly capacity of the device.”

After the staff of medical professionals, the antibody test will be performed on police forces and other high-risk groups.
