TIRANA, April 10 /ATA/- Albania’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Swiss Embassy, the Norwegian Embassy to Albania, and the United Nations Development Program in Albania (UNDP) virtually signed a joint partnership agreement of support for Albania’s health authorities in fight against COVID-19 through the purchase of 30 respirators.
This contribution is in support of the Albanian government’s commitment to capacity building and providing a sufficient number of life-saving machinery for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in intensive care.
The Swiss government donates 330,000 USD, the Norwegian government 3,000,000 Norwegian kroner and UNDP 100,000 USD. All 30 respirators are expected to be brought in Albania within a month and will be handed over to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
“Your support for the purchase of 30 respirators is very important for enhancing the capacity of the public health system in Albania,” said Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu.
The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Albania was registered on March 9 and so far there are 416 confirmed cases. Immediately, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection defined the purchase of respirators a priority for the government of Albania.
The Albanian government has financed the purchase of 54 respirators, while this financing of three international donors will provide 30 additional respirators to help Albania cope with the situation of COVID-19./k.s/ /a.g/p.s./
