TIRANA, March 6/ATA/- Democratic Party Leader Lulzim Basha proposed on Friday a radical reform of the electoral system, requesting that “100 days before the elections, Albanians should be represented by a caretaker government to manage the process, to guarantee the implementation of laws and a free and secret ballot.”
In a meeting with young people and academics, Basha presented the Democratic Party platform for reforming the electoral system emphasizing that, “the voting system is not a decision of the political parties, but of the people.”
“Full constitutional and legal control over the candidates, to be clean and with integrity. The control shall be carried out by an independent body. Zero tolerance for those involved in vote-buying and vote-selling. To provide financial support for the parties so they do not depend on big businesses and wealthy people. Politicians to depend on the people and be controlled by them. Whoever finances the parties is excluded from receiving public tenders after the elections, not to be able to benefit from donations to parties,” according to Basha’s proposals.
In his remarks, the DP leader also emphasized that,” the electoral system must ensure a balance of powers and the constitutional control.”//a.i/
