“Paperless Customs”, 400 thousand online declarations in 2019

TIRANA, February 13/ATA/-In 2019, the economic operators conducted about 400,000 online customs declarations, avoiding their physical submission to customs offices.

“Paperless Customs” is a service that has been offered to economic operators since May last year,  significantly reduces the waiting time of businesses at the customs, reducing their costs and minimizes contact between businesses and Customs, directly affecting and reducing corruption phenomena.

This service removes the obligation for businesses to appear at the Customs windows as the customs declaration can only be submitted electronically.

Thus, declaration of goods at the Customs is done only online (without papers) by applying electronic signature, regardless of the place where the person who makes the declaration is located and by electronic stamping; the real-time copy of this document is verified by the customs authorities.

About 93% of the businesses benefit from this new online service, which previously had to be physically present at customs offices for filing a customs declaration.

But, the operators who are classified as high risk, in the “red channel” as they say, which make up a small percentage of economic operators filing customs declarations, are those who are subject to complete scrutiny with all papers, but not the rest.

Albania was the first country in the region to start offering this new online customs service to businesses./a.gjonaj/j.p/p.s./
