TIRANA, Jan 28 /ATA/ – The European Parliament rapporteur for Albania, Isabel Santos, said on Tuesday that the European Parliament will deliver on its commitment as far as the opening of negotiations is concerned.
Speaking today before the EP’s Committee on Foreign Affairs which held a special session on the Western Balkan countries with the participation of parliament speakers of the six countries and the rapporteurs on these countries, Santos said that, “this is an important moment in terms of our commitment, which was set out in the resolution adopted here two months ago. As part of the accession process, the EP will keep its promise. It is a commitment that we, colleagues who attended the hearing, reaffirmed in that resolution.”
“I ask you only one thing: to hope that the situation created at the beginning of October will not be repeated and we hope that the Western Balkan countries will pursue the reforms, which are a pre-requisite for EU accession process and beyond that, they are important for your citizens’ welfare, for the functioning of your countries. For our part, we are committed to driving the process forward,” Santos said.
