TIRANA, Jan 14 /ATA/-A large-scale container for shipping by sea put on display at the Durrës Archaeological Museum has been already restored.
The dolium, is a large earthenware vase or vessel used in ancient Roman times for storage or transportation of goods.
Along with its historical significance of cultural heritage the dolium gives conclusive proof that, 1800 years ago at the Durrës Port were processed wine vessels, sailing on the itinerary between Durrës Port and the Ports in France, Spain and Italy.
The team engaged in the restoration work headed by Underwater Archaeologist Adrian Anastasi who discovered the relic of the shipwreck not far from the city’s shores, has worked for more than a year, first on its desalination and then on consolidation of 296 parts of the vessel found shattered under the sea.//a.i/
