Denaj: Post-earthquake rebuilding program, opportunity to create economic zones

TIRANA, Jan 11 /ATA/ – The Minister of Finance and Economy Anila Denaj said Saturday that Albanian authorities will wait for the donors’ conference scheduled for February 17 in Brussels in order to have a clearer picture in terms of the available funds that will be earmarked for the hardest-hit areas by the November earthquake.

Speaking in a TV interview, Denaj noted that the state budget will allocate an additional funding to support the post-earthquake response and reconstruction efforts also next year.

“I can’t say for sure the exact amount of the damage bill, but we believe damages are higher than the amount we have already allocated and therefore we think that this process will last next year too. The state budget will feel the effects also next year,” Denaj said.

Finance and Economy Minister also said that the government will prepare a detailed plan aimed at stimulating business in the worst-hit areas that will be reconstructed under the National Rebuilding Program.

“Some of the quake-hit areas could be seen as a great potential for economic development, including the area of Spitalle in Durres or other areas in Tirana in order to develop economic zones and create employment opportunities,” she concluded.
