TIRANA, Jan 11 /ATA/-By A. Fortuzi/ – The main opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha stated Saturday that delivering on the electoral reform was top priority as part of commitment to fulfill the conditions set forth by Germany’s Bundestag.
In his remarks during a press conference, Basha said that Albania should not miss the European integration chance.
“First and foremost, not a single moment should be wasted in order to deliver on the Bundestag conditions which are the only path towards opening the accession negotiations and make Albania and European Union member,” Basha said.
According to him, fulfilling this conditions is also the only way to absorb the EU funds and properly manage them to support acute needs in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit the country last November to support agriculture, business development, health and education system.
“As you already know, yesterday I had a series of meetings in Italy and I was impressed by the fact that Romania alone benefits direct EU funding three times as much as Albania’s budget,” Basha noted.
“European top officials, the European Commission President, the Croatian Prime Minister in his capacity as holder of the Presidency of the European Union, expressed yesterday their readiness to open the accession negotiations with Albania. The two personalities of the European People’s Party have confirmed this during constant communication with them and I am very pleased to hear them affirming it publicly a day ago. This is the position of the European People’s Party and that of the Democratic Party of Albania,” Basha said.
