TIRANA, Dec 1 /ATA/ –By I. Vata/ – Seismologist Rrapo Ormeni said Sunday that a series of aftershocks recently being felt in the area of Durres and other districts of the country is a normal process needed to release energy during an earthquake.
“People should get used to the aftershocks, because they haven’t experienced such a powerful earthquake like the one that hit the country on November 26 over the past 40 years. As we have already said, as many as 1300 aftershocks have been recorded following the main shock of the Nov 26 powerful earthquake. We should consider that three aftershocks measured above 5 on Richter scale, 25 above 4 Richter scale and 130 other aftershocks of over 3-magnitude, which are yet recorded by devices. Since last night, a number of stronger aftershocks have been recorded. It is normal that energy releases from the seismic zone. It is necessary that energy release and aftershocks take place. There is no reason for people to panic,” Ormeni said.
“It is a normal process and people should now that quake energy should release. They know quite well that aftershocks have caused no damages,” he added.
