TIRANA, Nov 27 /ATA/-By Gjergji Mima/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Wednesday afternoon that a reconstruction program due to be implemented in the worst-hit areas following the powerful earthquake will be designed to ensure safety and housing standards for the quake-affected residents in Thumane.
In a statement to the media during visit to the affected village of Thumane, asked about what would happen with the families that cannot return to their damaged homes, the Premier said they will be temporarily housed in hotels and any other accommodation facility.
“I don’t have the magic wand to do things instantly. It is a crisis situation. Everyone is certainly understood, but everyone should also understand the need for a process to start. During the day, we have been working to identify all these families. Before arriving here, I was informed that the affected families are gradually being transported to hotels pursuant to the agreement with the hotel owners. We would have wished to solve everything instantly but we don’t have a magic wand. This is difficult process,” PM Rama told reporters.
The government head noted that a transparent process is needed to harmonize all actions and make sure that nobody remains homeless.
PM Rama announced that a National Reconstruction Committee will be established as part of the State Committee that will be tasked with coordinating, monitoring and ensuring transparency of the entire process.
“Yesterday was the first day of terrible shock, but also the day when we had to make sure to join forces and energies in order to rescues the earthquake survivors trapped under the rubble. Our teams have made a colossal job. A lot better should be done with the help of experts who came from other countries,” he said.
The Premier appealed for calm and urged people not to fall in a state of panic in order to avoid psychological traumas.
