Per capita income increases by 27.2 percent since 2013

TIRANA, Nov 16 /ATA/ – Albania’s per capita income increased by 27.2 percent in 2019 compared with per capita income level in 2013, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance Arben Ahmetaj said in his remarks in the first reading of the draft state budget for 2020.

“The level of the GDP per capita in 2019 has increased by 27.2% since 2013. Of course, each of us can cite the convergence that should have been much faster in order to match with the EU average, which is certainly a bold ambition and would require a 4.5 to 5% growth rate. However, this is an important figure,” former Finance and Economy Minister said.

Ahmetaj said that according to the latest data presented by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), Albania’s per capita income was 59, 340 lek in 2019 up from 49, 730 lek in 2013.

“These are data provided by IMF and INSTAT, showing a significant increase in per capita income,” Ahmetaj noted.

On her part, the Finance and Economy Minister Anila Denaj said that government expects the per capita income to keep growing in 2020.

“Creating more than 30, 000 jobs in 2020 is expected to have a positive impact on the average income earned per person,” she said.
