TIRANA, Nov 1 /ATA/ – The head of OSCE Presence in Tirana, ambassador Berndt Borchardt, stated on Friday at the fifth edition of annual roundtable “Forum on Media Development” that certain online platforms abuse freedom of expression by disseminating misinformation to public opinion.
“Online media has developed at rapid rates compared to previous years and we have noticed a boom in online media. We have our projects related to media, our latest projects. As far as progress is concerned, there are issues that need to be addressed and it is important to focus on the space dedicated to professionalism. We have called the experts to make their recommendations on this issue, ”said Ambassador Borchardt.
Borchardt also touched on cases when journalists have come under threat due to their duty. According to him, the OSCE has not forgotten about those cases adding that the institution he represents is on the side of journalists appealing to them not to give up on this mission to tell the truth.
“As to influence on the media, Borchardt said: There are certain websites that use biased and untrue information and their owners are unknown, however we cannot pretend we have forgotten certain cases of journalists coming under threat as long as we have closely followed them.”
