Kukan: Macron, a silent saboteur, short-sighted and irresponsible

TIRANA, Oct 18 /ATA/ – “I feel nothing, but disgust and indignation about France’s attitude at the EU summit that lead to postponement of the EU enlargement process. I kind of knew that, because president Macron has already played the role of a silent saboteur,” said Eduard Kukan, Former Slovak Foreign Minister and former European Parliament’s rapporteur on Albania.

In a statement, Kukan added: “However, I did not believe they were going to sting Albania and North Macedonia, when the decision was officially taken. He is really short-sighted and irresponsible.”

Kukan described France’s rejection to opening the EU accession with the two countries as a degrading gesture towards this strategic region for the EU’s global interests.

“I would like to call on our partners in the Western Balkans not to worry, although I understand how tough it is,” he added.

“They have within the EU many serious friends and politicians who will continue to work with them intensively to achieve their European ambitions. I would like to urge them to show through their European progress that they care more about the creation of a united Europe than those who complicate it,” Kukan concluded.
