Negotiations/PM Rama: Internal fight of different approaches on EU

TIRANA, October 17/ATA/- Prime Minister Rama has spoken from Brussels about the hot topic of the recent days, i.e. the opening of negotiations of Albania and North Macedonia with the European Union.

In question to answer by the Euronews about Albania’s chances of a “YES”, the prime minister said, “It is clear that the majority understands everything; it is a small group, but from very important countries that has another understanding”.

It is a fight from within of different approaches for the EU. So in some way we risk being the collateral damage of this internal war. ”

Speaking about the reforms, PM Rama said that, “We do not do this for Europe or someone likes it in Paris or Berlin, or because someone wants more elsewhere. We do this for ourselves, for our children. It’s the only thing we can and should do. Even if the European Union would disappear the next day, we would do the same again because it is about building a functioning democracy and the rule of law in our country. ”

“There is only one thing we disagree with, that during this time, we must deepen reforms in the Western Balkans and elsewhere. It’s not that we’re looking to become members today. We want to benefit from this transfer of knowledge on state building through negotiations and seal the perspective through negotiations that our country will one day be in the EU. We don’t want to become members today or tomorrow. ”

The head of the Albanian government also said he agrees with what President Macron has said, but insisted that opening negotiations does not mean Albania will join immediately./p.s./
