Hahn: Albania has fulfilled its obligations, ball is in EU court now

TIRANA, October 17/ATA/- The Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama met on October 17, 2019 with European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Johannes Hahn at the EU Commission headquarters in Brussels, Belgium in the wake of decision-making in European Council.

“We can confirm Albania has fulfilled its obligations. We had an agreement based on unanimous decision of all member states about five key priorities, and we have made our assessment already last year, ” Hahn said.

EU Commissioner Hahn stated that, “we have repeated the assessment and we have given last year and this year the full recommendation to start negotiations, and in case it doesn’t happen today because it’s the agenda of the European Union, actually it’s not because of any failure of Albania or its government. It’s the issue of the European internal dynamics and I think this is important to be understood by the citizens of Albania.”

“And I can only urge the government to continue all the reform efforts because this is in the interest of Albanian citizens, and it’s not to please us. And again, about the European Commission, and we are extremely dedicated to continue our joint efforts in order to improve the living conditions in the region, in Albania in particular,” Hahn stressed.

“We will do everything, and I hope that as soon as the internal EU issues are resolved, this is a positive impetus for further membership of the region,”he concluded. //a.i/
