About 300,000 carp spawn spread in Prespa Lake

TIRANA, October 16 /ATA/- Albania’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is working to enrich the country’s lakes with fish spawn.

Minister Bledi Çuçi made a stop at Prespa Lake area where the process of spreading about 300,000 carp spawn was underway.

“Today, we are in Prespa Lake where we shall spread about 300,000 carp spawn. This spawn is prepared in the local center. This is a considerable amount of spawn for the lake. This is a great help for the fishermen. Prespa Lake sets a model in terms of management by the Fishermen’s Organization. There is almost no illegal fish hunting,” said Minister Çuçi.

During the current year, fishing in Prespa Lake has increased significantly, reaching about 100 quintals of fish.

Minister Çuçi has also visited the lakes of Ohrid and Fierza where enrichment with spotted lake trout and carp spawn has also begun.

More than 1.5 million spotted lake trout spawn has been spread in the Lake Ohrid this year, while in Fierza around 160 thousand carp spawn.

The Ministry of Agriculture will continue to support fishery as one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. /e.xh/j.p/p.s./
