Archaeologists discover ancient Corinthian settlement in Babunja

TIRANA, September 19 /ATA/- A team of German, Albanian and Romanian archaeologists who are studying the ruins of an ancient settlement in Babunja village in Fier region discovered an ancient Corinthian settlement.

The findings suggest that this is an ancient Corinthian settlement, founded in the late 6th century BC and abandoned some 150 to 200 years later. Thus, this ancient settlement is added to two other important settlements in today’s Albanian territory – Apolonia and Epidamnos (Durres).

The cultural attaché of the German Embassy Enrico Günther visited the excavations and got some impressions on life in ancient Babunja by the project leader, Dr. Manuel Fiedler.

The researchers were able to gain insights into these exciting discoveries about community organization in the village and economic links with other nearby places, but also with Southern Italy.

This project is funded by the Erasmus + program./a.a/j.p/p.s./
