TIRANA, Sept 11 /ATA/ Thomas Markert, Secretary of Committee for Democracy through the Rule of Law confirmed that he has not seen any preparation for a new electoral process in the country, whereas the opinion on President’s decision on cancellation of June 30 is expected to be delivered on October 11.
Asked in a televised interview on October 13 set by President of the Republic for local elections, which is only two days before Venice Commission delivers its opinion, Markert said that it is a sheer coincidence.
“However I think that no elections will be held on October 13,” he stressed.
“To the best of our knowledge, no preparations are taking place to hold the elections,” he said while commenting on the question whether President of the Republic has violated the law on cancellation of June 30 elections.”
Speaking about the meetings in Tirana, he said that parliamentary opposition does not have a unified stand, instead it has different opinions. Whereas the extra-parliamentary opposition has a clear stand.
Regarding the stand of PM Edi Rama, Markert said: “You know that PM Rama has been very critical of what President of the Republic has done. We have discussed the role of president either, what he should do, what he is entitled to do and what not, as well as the consequences of these actions”. /j.p/sm/
