962 beekeeping farmers applied for subsidies this current year

TIRANA, August 23/ATA/-The farmers are making more and more investment in beekeeping even thanks to the national schemes of support for the agriculture.

The Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development reported that during 2019 the number of farmers applying and qualifying for subsidy in beekeeping across the country increased into 962 as compared with 600 applications registered a year earlier.

90% of the applications belong to farms that own 100-150 hives and the value of the subsidy provided by the national scheme amounts to ALL 150,000 per farm.

The production of honey and other by-products yield satisfactory profits for the farmers. But, developing beekeeping exports will add even more the incomes for entrepreneurs in the sector.

Albania has a rich flora and favorable weather conditions. Hence, it offers very good opportunities for producing quality honey of special taste.

For the time being, the production and marketing of honey is still at domestic consumption levels and is exported only to the countries of the region.  The certification of this product according to the European standards is expected to expand the geography of “Made in Albania” honey exports./e.xh/j.p/p.s./
