TIRANA, Aug 19 /ATA/- Minister of Finance and Economy, Anila Denaj, and Director General of Customs Administration, Arlind GjokutaJ, at a joint press conference on Monday in Tirana, presented the outcome of crackdown on informality in excise products.
Minister Denaj said that during July the performance of excise products consumption and the level of revenues collected by customs administration has significantly increased. In July, revenues in excise collections reached ALL 4.86 billion, up 107% from the target, marking a 17.8% increase compared to July last year.
“Our work as part of the action plan against informality in August is focused on excise products. The activity is regulated by law that provides for significant incentives for operators, such as payment of excise duties at the time of circulation and self-declaration. Beyond the incentives, this law also stipulates penalties. The penalties depending on the type of subjects and repetition go up to 5 times the missing liabilities. The Customs Administration has analyzed the data in detail and has prepared a list of subjects to be scrutinized, ”- said Denaj.
“On the first stage the operation has prioritized the sector of hydrocarbons. In the months to come, the operation will focus on excise products, tobacco and alcoholic drinks,” Denaj said.
