TIRANA, August 6/ATA/- The Chairman of the Agrarian Environmentalist Party Agron Duka stated that there will be no local elections on October 13, in line with President Ilir Meta decree.
Being a guest to a television studio, Duka argued that the October 13 elections will not be held because the Central Election Commission (CEC) rejected the President’s decree. He said the 3 opposition parties were formally registered at the CEC, in the hope of a positive response from the ruling majority.
“There will be no elections on October 13 because in fact all deadlines have passed. CEC did not convene, so October 13 cannot be realized, the President’s decree was rejected. In fact, there is dual power in the Albanian reality. The ruling majority has seized all institutions and on the other hand there is the President’s decree recognized by the opposition. So there are not three poles, but two, the majority and the opposition,” said Duka.
However, he did not hesitate to speak about alleged suspicions of a split within the opposition.
“There is no split. On the contrary, the opposition in unison recognizes the president’s decree and does not recognize the June 30 elections”, said Duka.
The opposition is determined not to go to the polls while Prime Minister Edi Rama is in office, concluded Duka. /z.tosku/p.s./
