Durres port reports increase in ferry passenger numbers in June

TIRANA, July 3 /ATA/ – Albania’s largest port handled around 50 000 ferry passengers to and from Durres in June alone, whereas the largest one-day passenger influx was recorded last weekend, the Durres Port Authority said on Wednesday.

Operative data from the Durres Port Authority show that a total of 49 322 passengers and 8 736 vehicles have travelled to and from the port of Durres in the 30 days of the previous month.

Last Saturday recorded the highest passenger number for June, with 1 634 passengers arriving in Durres, while 2805 other passengers departing for the Italian ports of Bari and Ancona.

The number of ferry passengers is expected to rise in July and August as, apart from foreign visitors, a large number of Albanian emigrants are set to arrive in Albania to spend holidays with their families in our country, Kosovo and North Macedonia.

The Durres Port handles about three quarters of maritime passengers and the overwhelming majority of about 90 percent of transport. Albania has three other ports in Vlora, Saranda and Shengjin with the latter only involved in maritime transport.

The port has also become an attractive cruise ship tourism destination with thousands of tourists visiting the ancient city of Durres as part of their Mediterranean tours.
