BoA: Albania’s inflation at 1.5% in May

TIRANA, July 3 /ATA/ – Albania’s inflation pursued an upward trend in April and May 2019, standing at 1.4% and 1.5%, respectively.

The Governor of the Bank of Albania said at a press conference on performance of the country’s economic indicators that over the past months, inflation has reflected mainly the volatility in food and oil prices.

According to him, from the macroeconomic perspective, inflation undershooting continues to reflect a still sluggish growth in wages and production costs in the economy, low inflation rates in our trading partners and the residual effect from the exchange rate appreciation in 2018.

Based on the observed trends, the central bank’s Supervisory Council deems that both domestic and imported inflationary pressures will converge gradually toward our inflation target over the next two years.
