TIRANA, June 28 /ATA/ – The Association for Local Autonomy of Albania (ALAA) condemns in the strongest possible terms the violent actions exercised by the municipal employees and their family members in the at the election centre of the Municipality of Vau i Dejës, in the north-western Albanian region of Shkodra.
“The arson attack on ‘Ndre Mjeda school in Vau i Dejës is a national shame! We strongly condemn the unfit and unlawful conduct by Mayor Zef Hila, who can’t represent the citizens. Physical threat and attacks on police officers, who are parents, sons and our Albanian brothers is a barbaric and unacceptable criminal act. This act is more punishable when it is exercised by public servants paid on taxpayers’ money to serve and not to vandalize their city,” the Association for Local Autonomy said in a press statement on Friday.
“We are convinced that residents of Vau i Dejës have nothing to with this macabre act and they distant themselves from this act. We call upon municipalities not to betray their mission to serve citizens and the law,” the statement read.
An arson attack took place on Ndre Mjeda school where a regional local election centre is housed on Thursday night, few days ahead of the Sunday’s local elections in the country.
