TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ – President Ilir Meta’s spokesman Tedi Blushi, asked by the reporters about the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer’s statement during an interview with the Voice of America said that the head of state welcomed “the responsible, careful, as well as concerning statement issued by the Chairman of the Foreign Committee at the US Congress, Elliot Engel.”
“The President of the Republic hails the responsible, careful as well as concerning statement by the Chairman of the Foreign Committee at the US Congress, Elliot Engel, this long-time friend of Albania, Kosovo and Albanians, about the difficult political situation and the immediate need for restoration of dialogue and the rule of law,” President’s spokesman said.
“The President of the Republic assures the Chairman of the Foreign Committee at the US Congress, Elliot Engel and all true friends of Albania in the United States of America that he is doing and will do every effort that Albania holds comprehensive and democratic, free and fair local elections according to standards just like a NATO member deserves and a country wishing to become a member of the European Union,” Blushi concluded.
