TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said at an electoral campaign rally in the southern city of Gjirokastra on Sunday that it was regrettable that political opponents were not racing through ideas, programs and candidates in the June 30 local elections and that they had taken to the streets instead.
“It is really regrettable, extremely regrettable that while our political opponents are not racing against us as they have no candidates, no programs and not ideas but a handful of people, around 20 of them, who block the road. They have become just like the desperate supporters of former communist dictator in the ’90s, a group of blind and deaf people who gathered on streets, unable to figure out that the regime had collapsed and seeking to stop the huge wave of the change that formed the basis for the later democratic developments in the country,” Rama stated.
Dozens of Democratic Party supporters sought to block Prime Minister’s scheduled electoral campaign meeting in the city of Gjirokastra, southern Albania. DP supporters were led by the former mayor of Lazarat, Dasho Aliko, who is also chairman of the DP branch in Gjirokastra.
