TIRANA, June 15 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama told an electoral campaign meeting in the town of Kolona, southeast Albania, on Saturday that the country’s opposition decided to boycott the June 30 local elections as they can’t win this race.
The government head, also leader of the governing Socialist Party, noted that the June 30 local elections are not the best thing that could happen to Albania because “our rivals are experiencing their worst days of political life.”
“We certainly don’t feel happy with this situation. These elections are undoubtedly strange because they are being held without our main political rivals and these elections are not the best thing that could happen to Albania, especially when Albania expects to open the EU accession negotiations based on the country’s merits,” PM Rama said in his remarks.
The Premier said that opposition is seeing to seize power by violence.
“Nobody can seize power by violence. This is something everybody knows and the government and other institution’s buildings are not the power. You can storm the Parliament, but power stems from the citizens’ vote and as long as you don’t receive the people’s vote, you won’t have power too,” he said.
