TIRANA, June 2 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated at a joint press conference with the visiting NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Tirana on Sunday that the Albanian government would allow no form of destabilization that would hurt the country’s image, despite the violent demonstrations within a narrow perimeter and with no popular support that damage this image.
Rama noted that the “NATO decision to invest in Kuçova air base and the investment program designed to turn the air base into an integral part of the Alliance’s infrastructure is not in doubt.”
The Premier expressed confidence that every Albanian, in spite of what they think about the government, won’t joint a process that would prove the notorious thesis raised by Albania’s long-standing enemies that Albanians do not know how to build a state that they cannot even respect the rules they adopt themselves.”
“This is not a demonstration of grave popular concern, but a political play game that stands no chance of spreading beyond the boundaries of political scene. We will hold the elections as an irreversible political process,” Rama stated.
“I would like to assure Stoltenberg that we will honour all our commitments and on the other hand I am confident that this artificially organized process will not threaten Albania’s image as a NATO member,” Rama said.
