TIRANA, May 29 /ATA/ – Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, has commented on positive recommendation of EC for opening of EU accession negotiations with Albania saying this report is a clear indicator of the progress in 5 key priorities.
In a televised interview, Cakaj said that Albania deserves the opening of accession negotiations.
“Today’s report indicated Albania’s progress in 5 key priorities in general, but also unequivocal fulfillment of the Council’s conditions for opening accession negotiations. This report is important for opinion whether Albania deserves the opening of accession negotiations in June this year or not, and the answer is crystal clear that Albania deserves the opening of accession negotiations right away ,” – said Cakaj.
Cakaj added that the progress report carries special importance for three reasons: First, because it describes justice reform as an exemplary model for the region and beyond, either for the purge of justice system through vetting or for establishment of new justice institutions, a prerequisite for an independent judiciary. The second element is the role of Albania in the region highlighting the fact that Albania has cultivated good neighbourly relations and in the end Albania is apparently the only country in the region which acts in full compliance with EU’s foreign and security policy.
