TIRANA, May 24/ATA/- The ruling Socialist Party Whip Taulant Balla stated during a meeting at Cërrik town that June 30 is the date of holding the local elections.
“Albania will hold the local elections on June 30. We cannot extend the mandate to the current mayors even for a single day. Beginning from July 1, the current mayors cannot sign even the respective paper for providing the economic assistance. The municipal council cannot convene on July 1 because the Constitution has stipulated a 4 year mandate for the organs of local governance”, said Balla.
According to Balla, the president cannot change the June 30 election date.
Balla said that no one can hamper the elections and reminded that years ago together with the Democratic Party in opposition had approved amendments to the Penal Code guaranteeing the electoral process./k.s/j.p/p.s./
