TIRANA, May 7/ATA/- Durrës Archaeological Museum is an important object of the cultural heritage in the ancient city that attracts numerous visitors all year round.
The museum got restored and opened for the public in 2015.
About 2100 objects are put on display in the first floor of the building belonging to the period prior the foundation of the city and up to the 4th century A.D.
An 1800 year old dolium, a large earthenware vase or vessel used in ancient Roman times for storage or transportation of goods, was added to the museum fund today.
Following the restoration work by the specialists, the dolium is now accessible to visitors.
Albania’s Minister of Culture Elva Margariti visited this priceless object.
She said that, “The dolium was hidden in waters for centuries. There has not been a similar finding in the course of the last 40 years. There were needed 3 months of work for its desalination and 8 other months for restoring the object. Following a long work, at last the dolium found in a ship belonging to the II-III century A.D. at Durrës bay, has taken shape. Archaeologist Adrian Anastasi found the pieces at the bottom of the sea (at 30 meters depth) and restorers Ibrahim and Amarildo Reçi (father and son) gave the full shape to the object”./a.a/ /a.g/p.s./
