TIRANA, May 3 /ATA/ “The aggravated press freedom reflects the real situation of democracy in Albania,” DP head, Lulzim Basha, says.
On world press freedom day, Basha said that Albanian journalists are less free, insecure and more censored, deprived of socio-economic rights, whereas many media owners are richer with more tenders, licenses and favors from the govt.
“Albania has moved down 7 places in the world index of Media Freedom, expressing concern on media capture and its concentration in the hands of a bunch of businessmen,” Basha said.
The use of media outlets for economic interests is the main problem that has undermined the media’s public confidence with 80 percent of journalists speaking in pessimistic tones about their professional future.
The govt.’s will, Basha said, is crucial for freedom of journalists, their safety, socio-economic rights.
