Universities, no step toward confirmation of academic titles

TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/-Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that the universities have taken no step toward confirmation of the academic titles and evaluation of the university teachers.

During a meeting held at the University of Arts, on occasion of launching the IVth call of the National Programme for Work Practice, PM Rama said that, “I have not forgotten that one of the main concerns of the students is confirmation of the academic titles and the university must do this. Like in all the rest of the world, it is the university that awards the titles and it is still the university that confirms them. It’s not the media, the government, the police, but the university that deals with things like plagiarism”.

The prime minister emphasized that the university has taken no step in this direction because it launches a process the same like vetting of the judges and prosecutors.

“There are many who appear like professors within the university, but as a matter of fact they are charlatans and their scientific titles have no value”, emphasized PM Rama.

However, the prime minister expressed his conviction that most of the university teachers are in the right position by merit.

PM Rama also highlighted the other demand of the students, i.e. the students making an evaluation of the performance of every university teacher, like the rest of the world./k.s/p.s./
