TIRANA, March 14 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama extended his best Summer Day wishes on Thursday, as Albanians celebrate the annual pagan holiday, marking the end of winter, celebrated nationwide every March 14.
Accompanied by the chairman of the Socialist Party’s Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, and the Elbasan Mayor Qazim Sejdini, the government head visited the annual Summer Day fair in the central city of Elbasan, where this popular holiday originates.
“From Elbasan, I wish a happy Summer Day to everyone,” PM Rama told reporters.
Approved by the Albanian Parliament in 2004 as an official and national holiday, this day of pagan celebration symbolizes the rebirth of nature, the awakening from a long dark winter and a general rejuvenation of one’s spirit.
