Construction works on Arbër Highway to continue at a higher intensity

TIRANA, July 18/ATA/ – The Arbër Highway known as the Caravan Road or part of the Via Egnatia, the ancient Roman road,  historically linking the Albanian capital, Tirana with Dibra, is now part of the ‘Corridor 8’ qualified as a project of great importance for the country’s road infrastructure.

The Albanian government started the construction works on Arbër Highway on June 17,  and the authorities are continuing the project implementation at a higher intensity.

The Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama posted Wednesday in his “Good Morning” column on Facebook, a video showing the construction works on Arbër Highway site.

This road axis passes through the Tirana District – to the Administrative Unit of Zall – Bastari, and through the Murriz tunnel, the road passes to the territory of the Municipality of Klos and specifically to the villages of Drezë, Xibër, Shkallë as well as Fshat Village.

The new two-lane highway will pass through a mountainous terrain of central Albania to connect the remote Dibra region on the Macedonian border to the capital.

The construction of the Arber Highway up to 74 km long will significantly reduce the existing road of Tirana-Debar of length 180 km, aimed at the economic development of the areas.

Corridor 8 connects the Adriatic and Black seas. It sets out from the Italian ports of Bari and Brindisi and knocks on the door of Durres in Albania before carrying on through Tirana, Skopje and Sofia, finally arriving in the Black Sea ports of Burgas and Varna.
