Quarries near Mount Tomorri closed down: Vlora Court’s ruling, senseless

TIRANA, July 17 /ATA/- The Ministry of Environment has revoked the permits to several quarries operating near Mount Tomorri.

At a news conference, Minister of Tourism and Environment, Blendi Klosi, spoke about abuses such as digging beyond the coordinates specified in the exploitation permits.

He also took the opportunity to denounce the rulings handed down by Vlora’s Administrative Court in favor of two entities out of 9 which had their permit for the quarry near Mount Tomorri revoked.
“9 environmental permits have been revoked due to serious violations and 10 others have been suspended.”

In breach of law and rule, these businesses had made profits at the expense of the mountain and the citizens who used to wake to the noise and white stone smoke, but also at the expense of the tourism of historic and cultural sites in the area. The decision to suspend and revoke environmental permits for this activity, which had caused a real natural catastrophe, was taken in pursuit of the law, the minister said.

According to him, the decision of Vlora Administrative Court is senseless and utterly arbitrary.
The Zagoria Valley has been declared a natural park and Kruja mountain will be soon earmarked as Protected Landscape.
