Agreement with Greece in a near future

TIRANA, July 10 /ATA/ – The meeting Rama-Tsipras is a golden opportunity to set up the guidance lines for this process.

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, is in London to attend the London summit, the fifth meeting of the Berlin Process.

The meeting will proceed today with PMs of the Western Balkans’ countries. In response to the media on dialogue with Greece, which is well underway, minister Bushati said that the meeting Rama-Tsipras is a golden opportunity to set up lines of the guidance that will be provided throughout this process.

We have taken steady steps forward in the talks on a new agreement on sea delimitation, an agreement based on the principles of international public law in the field of sea, on top of all a new agreement which would be equitable and applicable for both our countries. It is an easy process, but has met with political resistance from both parties, be in Albania or in Greece, yet we believe that with determination and clear political will we will come up with a concrete outcome in a near future, either for this agreement or the other elements of the package at issue with Greece.

The minister went on saying that the resistance is related to political views either in Albania and Greece, saying certain segments either prefer the status quo or are against a common European perspective of Albania and Greece.

We have often spoken about time frames, such as spring, early summer, summer, autumn. The deadlines are very important because they are an opportunity to motivate the respective teams working daily on all agreements on the table, however all that matters for the time being is the quality of work and the quality of this process.

We believe and we share the opinion with the Greek side that time is running out for both parties because there is a set of issues spanning over 70 years and all options have been reviewed on the table.

The chief of diplomacy also touched on the issue of migration, saying: The stand of Albania has been and continues to remain unchanged. We stand for the principle of solidarity and proportionality whereby each of EU member countries and those on the border facing this phenomenon should provide their support and contribution to solving this crisis.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of the London Summit, which for the first time brought up in the roundtable of the Berlin Process a set of issues related to security, rule of law and sustainable economic development.

The next meeting of Berlin Process will be held in Warsaw, Poland, in 2019.
