TIRANA, July 9 /ATA/ – “ Strengthening of cooperation between the Western Balkans and EU over security issues is a key prerequisite to addressing the common challenges.”
This is what Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, stated on Monday in London at the meeting of the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers, held in the light of the London summit dedicated to the Western Balkans.
The key issues concerned the European perspective of the Western Balkans, enhancement of the region’s security and stability as an added value to European security, addressing common security challenges, increasing commitment, and opening up prospects for young people as the largest asset of the societies of the countries in the region, as well as strengthening the regional countries’ commitments to democracy, rule of law, fight against corruption and organized crime.
In his remarks, Minister Bushati pointed out that strengthening of cooperation between the regional countries and the EU on security issues, both at strategic and operational level, is a key condition for strengthening regional security and addressing the common challenges in this regard.
Our countries, he said, over the last years have achieved tremendous success in establishing peace, promoting stability and close regional co-operation, achievements that have become a reality thanks to the common European perspective.
The Berlin Process has played a very important role in these achievements, also fostering a sense of “ownership” with regard to the multiplicity of collaborative and regional integration processes.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministers of the Western Balkans countries but also high representatives of EU and Great Britain as well as the host of the summit reconfirmed their unequivocal support for the advancement of the region’s European prospect.
