TIRANA, June 22 /ATA/ – The Albanian government is invested in building fair, fruitful and long-term strategic relations with Greece, Prime Minister Edi Rama stated at a meeting with ethnic minority representatives in Saranda on Friday.
Rama said this is has been a difficult process and unusual tension was present throughout the process. The Premier stated that the goal was not to break ties with Greece, emphasizing that the Albanian government was ready and totally committed to resolving the pending issues with the neighbouring country.
“It was not easy since it was a process that has gone through unusual tensions, not that we intended to break relations with Greece but are willing to correct all those problematic aspects that have been created throughout this phase of our history after the system change, the moment of tension we have been facing on our road to the future,” PM Rama said.
“I believe that for all those who know this relationship well and know the stalemate in the bilateral relations for all those who understand the weight of this stalemate in the process of cooperation and interaction with neighbours, there is no doubt the steps we have made are historic. It is a historic step that Greece has finally recognized war law as absurd and has agreed to abolish it,” the government head said.
