Transformation of waste collection site in Durrës into a large park

TIRANA, June 13  / ATA / –  The urban waste collection site in the Porto Romano area, in Durrës, over the years ,  has been turned into an environmental emergency, a pollution source and irreparable damage to the land and health.

The Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Minister of Tourism and Environment Blendi Klosi and the Durrës Mayor Vangjush Dako, visited Wednesday the area of Porto Romano to look closely at the situation, which is becoming more worrying for the citizens.

The Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that, ”the only way to end the existence of this area once and for all, is the project realization in cooperation with the Durrës municipality aiming at transforming the waste collection site at Porto Romano into a large park of the city.”

Also, the Albanian Premier emphasized that the ban on the use of plastic bags has become a necessity and that immediate measures need to be taken.

An ad-hoc decision of the government provides the ban on the use of the single use and unbreakable bags, a decision strongly supported by the environmentalists and environmental experts. //a.i/
